The Symetra Tour Arrives in Sarasota!

SRQ Players  You have got to get out to Sarabay this weekend to catch the Guardian Retirement Championship at The Sarabay Country Club!  Come cheer on three of Sarasota’s brightest young talents (Ginger Howard, Ericka Schneider and Jennifer Neville) as they do battle with an international field of 140 players all vying to be the next LPGA Superstar!

Sara Bay Country Club is a challenging course in particular because of the Donald Ross designed greens. Of the 569 rounds played last year, there were just six rounds that broke into the 60’s.

“The green complexes are tough, it is a true test of short game and approach accuracy,” said Daniela Iacobelli of Melbourne, Florida. “The person that has the best approaches onto the green and the one that brings out her best short game is the one that is going to excel.”

“Because of the difficulty of the greens, you basically play for the center of the greens,” continued Iacobelli. “Unless you have a green light pin and can go hunting you have to be careful. If you hunt and miss it can get very difficult.”

Lindsay Gahm of Louisville, Kentucky is a rookie on the Symetra Tour and understands the challenge.

“The greens are definitely challenging,” said Gahm. “Especially the par-3 holes because they are playing long so some of those greens can be difficult. Sometimes you may even have to play short of the green and try to get up and down. It’s a course where you may not go for a lot of pins and just try to manage the round.”

Great week for UK Golf!

As I was looking through the leaderboards and weekend results, I couldn’t help but notice what a fabulous weekend it was for golfers from the UK!  So happy to see the “return” of Padraig Harrington at the Honda, but he wasn’t the only Brit to make a splash (sorry for the PGA National pun).  Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Jamie Donaldson and Russell Knox all placed in the top ten and were it not for a double on 11 followed by a triple bogey on 14, we’d all be talking about the return of IKevin Phelanan Poulter.

On the European Tour stop in South Africa, England’s Andy Sullivan was victorious with three other Brits tied for 2nd including Kevin Phelan, who I had the opportunity to interview at The Ritz Carlton U.S. Open Qualifier back in 2013.

And if that weren’t enough, young phenom Charley Hull battled world #1 Lydia Ko in the New Zealand Women’s Open before fading late, still carding a top 10 finish.

Why do I find myself already excited about Hazeltine?
